Countdown to first Learning Celebration.

With less than one week to go to our first Learning Celebration, Wednesday 27 May, 6pm at Kaikoura Suburban Hall, we need to be O for Organised both here at school and at our homes.
Our learners have been super, duper Fyffe Force learners by displaying the values we believe in – Fun, Organisation, Respect, Communication and Excellence.
Miss Fearnley’s, afternoon, class had a fabulous day on Wednesday filming the different education sectors in Kaikoura.  It is very special to receive emails and see schools promoting the things we have done by viewing our students in newsletters and receiving emails from schools eg.

We have just had a lovely visit from your little people, they were
just a treat. Thank you for letting us take part in your filming and
do pass onto Livi what a delight it was to have them. From Mrs Gray – St Joseph’s.

The senior class are organising plays and looking at their own cultural backgrounds.
We, at home, have to be organised by turning up from 5.45pm on Wednesday 27 May at Kaikoura Suburban Hall and bring along a small plate to do with a culture that connects with your family.  This can be from the present or the past.
Please remember it is just a token not a huge amount as we are all busy people.

P.S See you all next Wednesday 27 May, from 5.45pm at Kaikoura Suburban Hall. Feel free to bring along family and friends.

Judo is here in Kaikoura! Join now.

judo

Judo (柔道 jūdō), meaning “gentle way”, is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai budō) and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. ….Wikipedia
We have a well established Judo club here in Kaikoura already proven to be very effective in keeping young people physically and psychologically fit and healthy.
You don’t learn just about combat technique but more importantly it teaches you about respect, discipline in its “gentle way”.
Kaikoura Judo Club is looking for young club members and this is an invitation for an orientation, introduction next week.
It is suitable for both boys and girls aged 5 years and above.
Please contact Tatsu Kuwasaki on 021 881 077 or 319 7105 for more information.

Reducing Waste at Kaikoura Suburban School

Val our Enviroschool teacher came to teach us about the 5 ‘R’s” –  REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE , RECOVER and RUBBISH.  We sorted our school’s rubbish and found that there was a large amount of waste that can’t be reused or recycled.  This waste goes to our landfill, which is filling up real fast!
We discussed ideas and options on how to reduce this from happening.  We decided that we would prefer paper wrapping, reusable bags and containers for our food.  We identified that glad wrap and chippy packets were the worst culprits.
We did a costing exercise and found that a big bag of chips or crackers or biscuits are more economic to buy and split up and send to school in a plastic container.  Food for thought!

Balloon Day

On Wednesday 6 May we celebrated, for the third year in a row, Balloon Day. We are very aware of the students in our school who align with the statistic of 1 in 4 aren’t able to blow up a balloon due to asthma.
We dressed in RED and ate RED saveloys for lunch – yummy that they were!
We would like to extend our thanks to Harnett’s Butchery for the yummy RED saveloys, Jackie and Anna for serving our lunch (Home & School committee members) and the students and staff for spending time dressing in RED to show their support for the day.
All money from the lunch and RED mufti day will be sent to the Asthma Foundation.

Exciting pre-season netball

It sure is fantastic that Kaikoura Suburban School has a netball team back in the competition.  The team has some young but very talented players.  Maddison was the star of the day as she scored the goal to get us on the board.
We are Future Ferns and this means the girls rotate around the court to experience all the different positions.  This will take a couple of weeks to adjust to but after Saturdays performance I’m confident things will be great.

Thanks to parents who came down to support.  Thanks especially for helping out while I was playing.  Next Saturday will be the last day for the pre season tournament then will just be playing one game consisting of 4 quarters.
Go the RED DRAGONS
