Our Visit To Ben Foster

November 27, 2008 - 1:27 pm No Comments

Earlier this term room 3 went and saw Ben Foster. He is a Kaikoura sculptor. Ben entered his sculpture in ‘Art In The Garden’. He entered his sculpture called ‘Standstill’.

He demonstrated casting a bird out of pewter for us.

I really enjoyed his pictures of the  ’Manu’ – Maori for sandfly. I also loved the pewter sculptures of lavendar and flowers out of his garden.

Mistletoe Bay camp

November 23, 2008 - 9:03 am No Comments

It is hard to believe a whole week has flown passed since our camp!

Mistletoe Bay was a fantastic spot.  We were fortunate enough to spend it amongst good company, good weather, a number of different animals, good food and good accommodation.

I extend a huge thanks to Donna, Linda, Chris, Dean and Andrew for the support and help you gave to the children and myself.  A truly terrific team.

We participated with a bush study and we now know the difference between manuka and kanuka. K = kind kanuka, M = mean manuka.  We actively took part with photo orienteering and we looked at the tidal zones with a whole different meaning.  Did you know that a limpets life consists of moving back and forwards on the same rock as the tide moves for its whole entire life.  If you pull the limpet off its rock and put it on a different rock it become disorientated and will die!  These limpets can live up to 80 years!

Another fabulous experience with a fabulous bunch of people. Thank you.

Our Images for our fences

Kia ora

We have had a fabulous week!!  Lots of Athletics training for the big day at Kaikoura Primary School on Tuesday.  We hope you are able to come and support us.

We have been very busy planning and making a practice image. We got some good feedback from the senior class for the images we are going to put on the fence.  Holly’s Dad has kindly taken some boards home for the weekend to cut out our shapes for us.   Thank you very much Steve!!!  We welcome any feedback you may have to help us make the best possible images we can create.

Have a fabulous weekend and remember it is only school for the Teachers on Monday.

We went on Maori tours. We went up to the Peninsula and Puhi Puhi valley. We learnt how old the trees were. We all went to Morris’s house and had morning tea. We had pikelets and water. It was great!

Steffi and the Burra family kindly donated some blue borage plants which you can eat. They also donated red currant tomatoes, black cherry tomatoes,  big beef tomatoes, roma tomatoes and strawberry plants.

We will be planting the plants in our vegetable garden next week.

Thank-you so much Steffi and the Burra family.
