Zoe listens to Solomon

Gemma listens to Taylor

On Friday we enjoyed the first of many buddy reading sessions.

At Munch-time the senior  and middle school students moved to their younger buddies class to listen to and mentor them in their reading.

After their buddy had read to them they reciprocated by reading a book to the younger pupil.

Here is some reflections from both senior and junior students.

It was fun.  Taylor G.

It is good because we can share our reading skills with our buddy.  Gemma

It was good reading books. Solo

It is really good because you are helping them and teaching them strategies.  Zoe

Good.  I also think it would be great if I chose the books for my buddy to read to me. Tyler

Great! It let us connect with our buddy and have some quiet time together. Taylor

Target wall and asphalt

Wow what a great week we’ve had with our new area.  Great work Kevin and Evan who designed and built our target wall and Fulton Hogan for laying the asphalt.
This has provided lots of extra space for our students.  This has been timely with the purchasing of our new scooters and skateboards.

New skateboard and scooters on new asphalt beside new target wall

We are loving our new area!

The Solar System arrives at Suburban School

July 15, 2011 - 8:51 am 5 Comments

The Fantail afternoon inquiry class have been having a fabulous time learning about ‘Planet Earth and Beyond’.

They especially love their ‘Friday fun day’ activity.Last Friday we painted the solar system on the concrete in front of the verandah. We made the sun and planets to scale and made sure that they were in the correct order.

We had so much fun and are really proud of the result.

It was cool when the Shearwaters and Pukeko’s came out of class. They gave us awesome feedback. Wow! They are amazing!

Everyone loves them so much that we are going to repaint them in permanent paint early next term so that we can enjoy them forever.

Listen out when you are near the planets. You can often hear a child singing the planet song.

What great learning we have achieved!

Here are some photo’s for you to enjoy. Please come and check the Solar System out.
