Stacey, Cody, Shaydon joined by Daniel from KPS travelled to Blenheim on Monday 19 Sept to compete in Blenheim Zone Chess Championships.
The group played 7 games. Gathering the results showed that the team won BRONZE.
We are very proud of the team as a couple of them had only just started playing recently. Credit must go to Alistair McNaughton and Catherine McNaughton for coaching and teaching the team.
Well done.
Bronze medal for Kaikoura Suburban
Annual Beach Clean Up
Shearwaters joined Brett Cowan on the annual beach clean up on Friday. The class picked up litter from the corner of State Highway One along to the boat park at South Bay. The students found broken glass, jandals, fishing line, parts of craypots, plastics and foam. Although they filled a black bag absolutely full to bursting point they were pleased to see that the beach was pretty clean. Thanks to Brett for joining us and for reading ‘The Waka’ to us at school.
The Treaty of Waitangi
Treaty of Waitangi
As part of our Globalisation Inquiry we have all been learning about New Zealand history and places. The Treaty of Waitangi is a very important part of past, present and future New Zealand. It is therefore very important that we all have some understanding of how and why events took place. To help make this more possible for all the students The Treaty of Waitangi was brought to school by Year 6 students and teachers last week. Enjoy the attached movie!
Kings and Queens Jazz Band – Dunedin College

Maori Artifacts
John Orchard visited school today to present a powerpoint and Maori artifacts to Pukeko and Shearwaters classes. The students found out about the lives of early settlers and had the opportunity to handle many weapons, tools, eggs and bones. John shared lots of interesting information and the students really enjoyed seeing a Moa’s foot and skull.
Thank you very much John!
