Mistletoe Bay rocks!

December 10, 2011 - 10:03 am No Comments

Pukeko class had 3 magic days at Mistletoe Bay last week. The sun shone, the optimists scooted across the water, the kayaks glided passed the sites, sneakers pounded the walking tracks, children busy preparing yummy food, exploring the beach for crabs and critters, relaxing in our homely whares, camp fires on the beach, wharf jumping in to the depths of the sea and much more.
Thank you to Jonathan for supporting our camp, Richard de Hamel who came over from Nelson to talk about beach life and some games, the parents who were great always willingly to help and support the activities and mostly the children who were always E for excellent.

Inter-school T-Ball tournament

November 10, 2011 - 5:42 pm No Comments

A responsive text written by James Sutherland on the inter-school T-ball.

On Tuesday the 8th of November at Kaikoura Primary School we had a inter-school T-ball Tournament. Our team was called Suburban Strikers.

The first match was against St Josephs Saints. My team, the Strikers, got off to a good start with Allie achieving a home run! Then later it was my turn to bat. I swung my bat and the softball went far, far away. I scored a home run! The Strikers went on to win the second and third innings 23 – 11.

The second match was a challenge it was against the Kaikoura Crackers. We thought we had it easy, but no way! The star player of the match was Kahn. One little mistake and you were in trouble! The Crackers were too hard, we lost 28-19.

Kaikoura Crunchers were next in line. This match was a very fast paced match, far throws, lots of catches, quick outs and home runs! My highlight of that match was a home run because the opposition backstop dropped the softball. We lost but only by 32-28.

The last match of the day was against the Inlanders. Wow we really set our eyes on a victory. The Strikers had a very practiced combination. Felix and I were in the diamond and Uriah at first base. We won the match 27-21.

I wish I could of got one more match at this amazing event because it was a very enjoyable event.

Kaikoura Suburban School 135 years old.

October 28, 2011 - 5:33 pm No Comments

The staff and students celebrated the special occasion of the school turning 135 years old with some of our grandparents, family and friends. The students had the opportunity to ask our visitors questions about school life from years gone by. We had a few ex students and one family that has had 4 generations go through the school.
The celebration was completed with cake and coffee.

Thanks Sport Tasman for organising such a fun event and congratulations to all schools.

Kea Kiwiana

Well, it has been such an exciting time at school with everything that is going on with the RWC. Over the last few weeks in the afternoon inquiry class with Miss Macer we have been completing our “Where in the World, World Map” out of the Marlborough Express. It has each countries mascot and it also includes a ‘did you know’ fact sheet on each country. We are learning where in the world these countries are and interesting facts about them.

We have also been learning about New Zealand and all the special places and towns that we have in our beautiful country. We all talked about where we were born and marked these on our class map. All of us were born in New Zealand except for B.L. who was born in England.

A highlight of the globalisation inquiry so far has been learning about Kiwiana, what it is and what it means for us as Kiwis. We all made a poster of what it meant to us. We shared our favorite two Kiwiana ads today at assembly. We made everyone laugh.

Below are some of our posters that we made. The drawings are of red band gumboots, jandals, kiwifruit and Fish and Chips.
