Just a quick update to let you know about our recent activities and learning in Shearwaters.
In maths we have been learning about direction and position for geometry, we have had lots of interesting tasks to increase our knowledge and ability to follow instructions accurately. We are now working on multiplication and division until the end of this term.
We have had a very successful art unit exploring the natural environment of guinea pigs with pastel. Shearwaters will start a six week block of P E skills this friday.
In literacy students have been undertaking numerous tasks involving researching, skim reading, note taking and presenting. We are now concentrating on persuasion…….sorry folks! The students are learning this skill for a debate that will be taking place in week 10.
News has been a huge success this term with competition heating up all the time for the acknowledgment of King and Queen of homework.
The students are busy filling their backpacks as life long learners with positive and determined attitudes.

Shearwaters have made a movie to enter the Canterbury Biodiversity competition as part of the celebrations this year towards biodiversity awareness. As part of our Inquiry “Getting to know our mountain” we are studying and researching native and introduced species, which is of great interest to all the students. The Shearwater class are particularly interested in the Hutton’s Shearwater and thought they would take this opportunity to do a little further research into this amazing endemic bird.
Enjoy the movie!Hutton’s Shearwater biodiversity entry
