Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all you all.
The staff and students of Kaikoura Suburban School have had a fantastic year learning and participating in many action packed adventures.  These have varied from Go Kart events, to running our own businesses and leading a Maori Festival at Takahanga Marae.
We await the exciting inquiry units planned for 2011.
Enjoy your time with family and friends.  Play safe, play lots and have fun during the festive season and I look forward to catching up with you all in the new year.

Pukeko class in Christchurch

Here we stand in front of the Peacock Fountain in Hagley Park.

Pukeko class on camp in Christchurch

We have been in Christchurch for our 4 day camp. To get started we were surprised with an hours fun in Rangiora where Scott and Vinnie’s offices are.  There were heaps of trampolines, gym gear and the best was the foam pit that you jumped in to. On Wednesday  we went to Ferrymead, ran out to the end of South Brighton Pier and the Roxx climbing centre.  Thursday we went to Science Alive for Forensic Fun, walked into Cathedral Square and saw many of the buildings had been pulled down after the earthquake, watched a busker, maths rambled to Hagley Park, into the Christchurch Museum for an hours fun with insects, out to QE II for swimming and hydro sliding.   Friday was a visit to Antarctic Centre and wow that new 4D show is absolutely amazing (especially the extra features!) After that we headed for home.  An fun action packed week.

Takahanga Marae Learning Celebration

November 16, 2010 - 6:51 am No Comments

Wow, wow, wow!  What a fantastic afternoon we experienced, thanks to the dedicated and hardworking team of students and staff. The aroha and the connectiveness that was shared by us was very special.
A huge thanks to whanau of the marae for allowing us to celebrate our learning in this way.  It was rewarding seeing people from our immediate community and visitors from other cities and countries choose to join us as we gathered on the marae.
Thanks to the parent community for supporting our day.
The learning was certainly a great recount of the team work that was shared during the unit of work.
Above are some photos showing the Legend of Rata being dramatised by the students.

Pets day in Kaikoura

October 21, 2010 - 6:31 pm No Comments

Sam and Ruby with their 'cute' lambs.

Bridget with her ‘fancy dressed’ lamb.

The sun shone, the Pet’s Day Committee had a mass of goodies for the large entry of pets, the school’s parent community were fantastic with the organisation of the day, the variety of food, the new attractions – blade shearing and the visitors to the day.
Congratulations to all the prize winners and the others who took part by entering a pet.
