Sam presents the school with carved images for new rooms.

Sam G has kindly carved 3 images for our classes here at Kaikoura Suburban School. The images are of the 3 birds of which we have named our classrooms after. This change was made as part of the new curriculum, linking the Kaikoura community with the school’s programmes.
Last year we voted for 3 bird names that we felt were linked to our school. The Pukeko (swamp hen) we see regular waltzing round the immediate paddocks beyond the school field, the Shearwater is the bird we have agreed to sponsor on an annual basis after one of our Year 6 students researched it last year and the Fantail we chose as it links the flora and fauna of Mt Fyffe with us.
Sam is a local artist who we consider one of our ‘experts’ under The Arts curriculum. He carves for a living.
Thank you Sam for our lovely carvings. These will be allocated to each classroom.

On Wednesday 17 2010 we all meet outside R&R Sports to bike to school for Bike Wise month. When we arrived there, there were free goodies for everyone. Once we were all sorted out we were off. We walked our bikes to Ludstone Road then we tackled a hill. Then zoomed down and up another one. Then we were on Mt Fyffe Rd in a flash. Halfway down the road Talyor and I had to stop for a breather. Then after a long bike down Mt Fyffe Rd we finally turned onto Schoolhouse Rd. Then over a couple of bridges.We were cheered on as we entered the gate. We had a race to the car park. We would like to thank all of the parent helpers, R&R Sport and the Seaward Lion ladies and the Kaikoura District Council.

On Wednesday 17 February we meet at R&R at 8am. Then we walked our bikes to Ludstone Rd.
Then biked to Mt Fyffe Rd then turned to, Schoolhouse Rd.
Then all the way to school. When mum and I biked with the rest of the school we had a race.

I woke up we went to R&R Sport for Bike Day. There was food
and prizes there. Mrs Rogers and I biked and

biked. Yes I came first then we went to have some toast.
Thanks to Kaikoura District Council, the Seaward Lions ladies and the parents that rode and supported us.

Zoom go all the bikers with excitement.

We walked with our bikes to Ludstone Road after meeting at R&R Sports.

Then we rode from Ludstone Road to Mt Fyffe Road to Schoolhouse Road where school is.

We would like to thank Seaward Lions ladies, R&R sports, Kaikoura District Council and the parents who rode with us and drove the support car.
It was lots of fun.

On Wednesday 17 February 2010 we celebrated Bike Day. Thank you to the parents, R&R sports, Seaward Lions ladies and Kaikoura District Council-Rachel for organising the Bike Day.
We can’t wait to do it again and we loved all the prizers, food and the bottled water.

Wednesday 17 February. Bike wise month.
Kaikoura Suburban School meet at R&R and rode to Suburban School.
Every one was awesome. I liked riding with everyone.

I like to thank the parents and Seaward Lions ladies who rode with us. I like to thank the Kaikoura District Council for the prizes. I got a Bike Wise snap band and stickers for my helmet to keep safe.
When we got to school we filled tummies with toast and water.

I think it’s great how New Zealand supported this bike day.

We drove or biked to R&R sport at 8am. The Kaikoura District Council gave out special prizes.
We packed up and biked up 2 big hills to school. Everyone was great. We spotted school and headed straight there. We had a big rest as we finished.
We would like to thank R&R Sport, Kaikoura District Council, the parents and the Seaward Lions ladies.
It was lots of fun.

Last week Shearwaters spent time discussing what it means to think and how we can make sure that we are always actively thinking to help our own and others learning.
