We’ve had a great time learning about the heart.
The heart pumps the blood around the body. The heart is red. All living things have a heart.
The blood is really red and full of oxygen when it leaves the heart in arteries, it comes back with carbon dioxide in veins.
The heart is the size of your fist.

Well it has been a busy three weeks with Miss Macer and we have been learning lots of new things. We have been busy swimming in the afternoons although it is cold we still give it a go, even if it is for only 10 mins. The water temperature has been around 18 each day and if it is raining we don’t go in of course. We have two swimming groups and the Dolphin groups are learning the freestyle stroke and how to float like a starfish on their tummies and their back. The Star Fish group are learning that the water is a fun place to be and are blowing bubbles and several are getting wet up to their nose so it want be long and they will be ducking under the water as well.

We were lucky enough to get a full page spread in last weeks newsletter where we introduced Kahu the Kea to everybody. For those of you that didn’t get to read it here it is.

Introducing Kahu Kea

In the Keas class we have got a special kea that we can take home with us but only if we are the superstar of the day. He is a very cool hand puppet and makes amazing kea noises. Kahu has been home with everyone in the class now and has been on some amazing adventures. We write a story about where we have been and what we have done with Kahu while he was having a sleep over at our house. Here are some of the cool adventure stories from his sleep overs.

Kahu Kea and I danced to some music and then we went on the tramp. By Solomon

Kahu and I went shark fishing and got a big shark. It was a Hammerhead shark. Kahu slept in the top bunk bed in my room. By Oliver.

Kahu Kea met my dogs Booboo and Petal. Petal bit Kahu’s nose and Booboo was scared. Mum thinks Kahu Kea is really cool. By Eli

Kahu the Kea came home with me on the school bus then we rode our bikes and we ate our tea at a cafe. It was fun. By Stevie.

We will keep you updated on his adventures.

Kahu will be appearing in our blogs every now and then so we thought he better introduce himself to you all.

The pukeko student’s have had a wonderful 1st week back at school!
We’ve been writing bio poems about ourselves, we really enjoyed that with lots of creativity. We’ve also been writing poems including personification which is a non human doing a person action eg. the tree waved in the cool breeze. For fitness we’ve been running around and then we’ve been taking our heart beats and pulse. After we had our data we made a stem and leaf graph with our resting pulse and our energetic pulse which was a challenge, but fun.
By fellow Pukekos Allie Miller and James Sutherland.

Thank you to Jonathan for supporting our camp, Richard de Hamel who came over from Nelson to talk about beach life and some games, the parents who were great always willingly to help and support the activities and mostly the children who were always E for excellent.
