February 24, 2012 all classes of Kaikoura Suburban School participated in the Amazing Race, which was held at Ocean Ridge.

Everyone laughing, striving for excellence, working as a team, using Key Competences and crossing the finish line. Sunny and hot, sweaty and exhausting. All students crossed the finish line of the Amazing Race Kaikoura Suburban School.

We all thought it was wonderful of the staff to have thought of this amazing activity for us students to have participated in. It was fun when we were working as a team to find stations representing the 8 Gardeners Multiple Intelligence’s which are Picture Smart, People Smart, Body Smart, Music Smart, Math/logic Smart, Self Smart, Word Smart and Nature Smart.

Over all the school thought it was amazing and hope we have another Amazing Race.

We’ve been writing bio poems about ourselves, we really enjoyed that with lots of creativity. We’ve also been writing poems including personification which is a non human doing a person action eg. the tree waved in the cool breeze. For fitness we’ve been running around and then we’ve been taking our heart beats and pulse. After we had our data we made a stem and leaf graph with our resting pulse and our energetic pulse which was a challenge, but fun.
By fellow Pukekos Allie Miller and James Sutherland.

A responsive text written by James Sutherland on the inter-school T-ball.

On Tuesday the 8th of November at Kaikoura Primary School we had a inter-school T-ball Tournament. Our team was called Suburban Strikers.

The first match was against St Josephs Saints. My team, the Strikers, got off to a good start with Allie achieving a home run! Then later it was my turn to bat. I swung my bat and the softball went far, far away. I scored a home run! The Strikers went on to win the second and third innings 23 – 11.

The second match was a challenge it was against the Kaikoura Crackers. We thought we had it easy, but no way! The star player of the match was Kahn. One little mistake and you were in trouble! The Crackers were too hard, we lost 28-19.

Kaikoura Crunchers were next in line. This match was a very fast paced match, far throws, lots of catches, quick outs and home runs! My highlight of that match was a home run because the opposition backstop dropped the softball. We lost but only by 32-28.

The last match of the day was against the Inlanders. Wow we really set our eyes on a victory. The Strikers had a very practiced combination. Felix and I were in the diamond and Uriah at first base. We won the match 27-21.

I wish I could of got one more match at this amazing event because it was a very enjoyable event.

On Monday 29th of August the Year 4′s and Year 5′s from Kaikoura Suburban School went on a whale watch trip.

First we watched a safety movie so that we were safe.

Next we got on a bus and I sat next to my dad.

Then we got on the boat, I chose a seat to sit on. Then the boat started to move away from shore. Andrea introduced her name to the kids, parents and teachers.
Andrea taught us about whales and what they eat.

Soon we got to go outside the boat. I saw a whale, it dived and I saw its tail, it was beautiful. Then we had to go inside.

Later we saw a big pod of Dusky Dolphins. We got to go outside and see them up close.

Unfortunately lots of people and I got sea sick.

Finally we went to shore. It was fun to see the whales. I learnt that whales eat squid, whales can dive for 45 minutes
and whales make a clicking sound with their noses and an echoing sound to catch their prey.

Thankyou to Kaikoura Whale Watch for letting Kaikoura Suburban School come go on the Whale Watch trip. I think it was a great experience for my first time and I would recommend it to everyone.
