Maori Artifacts

September 2, 2011 - 9:34 pm No Comments

John Orchard visited school today to present a powerpoint and Maori artifacts to Pukeko and Shearwaters classes. The students found out about the lives of early settlers and had the opportunity to handle many weapons, tools, eggs and bones. John shared lots of interesting information and the students really enjoyed seeing a Moa’s foot and skull.
Thank you very much John!

Rippa Rugby World Cup 2011

August 27, 2011 - 11:59 pm 1 Comment

Wow what a day!

During the last two days, each class learnt about a country from New Zealand’s Rugby World Cup Pool.

Students sampled the language, culture, costume, national anthems, songs, species and a huge array of delicious food.

Students and the community then celebrated in style with the opening ceremony of the Rippa Rugby World Cup 2011. The New Zealand national anthem was sung followed by each team marching to their countries national anthem.  Six teams entered our World Cup (Canada, Tonga, Japan, France, Australia and South Africa). Each team played the others in five rounds, with games lasting 10 minutes each.

Every student participated displaying the Force and key competencies to make the day a huge success. Congratulations – you are all winners!

There were some tense moments with teams determined to win and the crowd went wild ……..

Tonga won The 2011 Rippa Rugby World Cup

Takahanga Marae Learning Celebration

November 16, 2010 - 6:51 am No Comments

Wow, wow, wow!  What a fantastic afternoon we experienced, thanks to the dedicated and hardworking team of students and staff. The aroha and the connectiveness that was shared by us was very special.
A huge thanks to whanau of the marae for allowing us to celebrate our learning in this way.  It was rewarding seeing people from our immediate community and visitors from other cities and countries choose to join us as we gathered on the marae.
Thanks to the parent community for supporting our day.
The learning was certainly a great recount of the team work that was shared during the unit of work.
Above are some photos showing the Legend of Rata being dramatised by the students.

The Go Kart Derby was a fantastic result to an extremely well organised day. The day was dreamt of after our 5 week immersion programme on how to get people active in the Kaikoura community.
These last 5 weeks have been spent advertising the event using all forms of communication eg. live radio shows, newspaper articles, emails, newsletter ads and posters. One group made carts for the event. One group researched for a suitable place and then the legal requirements and the last group looked at what was needed for the proposed audience to make the most of the event.
Congratulations to all the organisers and the competitors. Well done to all of our Fyffe Force learners and Chris, Sue and Maree and the supportive families of our school who willingly helped out with marshalling, sausage sizzles, face painting, hay bales, and then the cleaning up.

Results from the day.
